July 2, 2009Holy Return of the Land Rover Defender!

The Land Rover Defender is reprising its role as my favorite rustic automobile!  Just 850 of the limited edition Fire and Ice Defenders will be manufactured and they will sell for about $95,000 a piece.  This is no spartan Defender, though.  In a marketplace where the Mercedes Geländewagen and the Hummer H2 are the competition, Land Rover has packed its new issue Defender with all of the luxury accouterments that one would expect in a 2010 car that commands nearly $100K.  Among the features that will come standard on the newest Defender: Recaro seats, a leather and Alcantara trimmed interior, diamond-turned alloys, color-coded head- and tail- lights, glass sunroof panel, and running boards (really?  on a Defender?  these cars are supposed to bad-ass…).
