February 23, 2009“My Maserati Does 185…I Lost My License, Now I Don’t Drive”

Having lived in Italy for a brief period of time, it really doesn’t surprise me at all that the folks over at Maserati chose this incredibly cheesy Kim Sanders song, “Let Me Love You,” as the soundtrack for their 2009 Maserati Quattroporte promotional video.  In truth, if it were an American car, the choice of an electronica ballad would have been a wretched disaster; but given the Italians’ unique ability to make gauche and gaudy into cultured and coveted, the song - remarkably - contributes to the video’s efficacy.  The 2009 Maserati Quattroporte is a stunner.  And even though it’s a mega luxury car with all of the trimmings, the Quattroporte is not a car to ride in; with a 0-60 time of 5.5 seconds (on the base model) and a top speed of 174 mph, the latest Maserati four-door is absolutely, unequivocally meant to be driven.  At a minimum of $120K, I won’t be having one any time soon, but at least I (and you) can admire it in the Park Avenue showroom.
