The Acura TL commercial shown below is a pretty sweet spectacle. This is an example of strong, smart marketing. The imagery of the bullet shooting through the bottle and coming out the other side an Acura is quite effective in conveying the stated message (obvious) about precision and power — two features most consumers seek in an automobile. But the ad’s efficacy is fortified by its subliminal (more inconspicuous) messages. The slow-motion bullet cutting through the air with tight rotation and the explosion off the line once the bullet makes contact with the glass bottom of the bottle function as visual cues that connote torque, steadiness, speed, and impressive acceleration — all features that consumers desire in a vehicle. This is one very well conceived advertisement in which every element adds to the commercial’s message.
